This has caused a major upheaval in her life and she is finding it difficult to adjust. You are required to write an assignment based on Mary and include the following items:
- Outline the issues to be aware of when attending to Mary’s personal care needs post-surgery (4 Marks)
- Discuss best practice in relation to stoma care (4 Marks)
- Discuss how you could support Mary in maintaining:
– Her dignity while assisting her in changing her colostomy device
– Enhance her Independence
– Promote positive self-image (3 Marks)
- In terms of Infection Prevention & Control, describe how you would dispose of any soiled linen (3 Marks)

There are several needs for the elderly that have not been significantly addressed. Aging is a process associated with different elements, such as the probability of developing chronic diseases and gradual disabilities. As a result, the elderly face great vulnerability because of age advancement, especially because of being subjected to the reality that subjects the elderly to inappropriate nutrition, chronic illness, social exclusion, and high risk of functional disorders (Paskaleva and Tufkova 2017, p. 3).
