Seborrheic keratosis refers to a noncancerous skin growth that is common among older people. These growths appear on different parts of the body, including the back, head, shoulders, chest, and neck, and they are black, brown, or light tan. They are slightly raised from the skin and look scaly and waxy. The growths are oval or round in shape and may be itchy.

Even though treatment for seborrheic keratosis is often necessary, many patients often seek medical care. Cryotherapy is one of the methods of managing the condition, which entails using carbon dioxide or liquid nitrogen to kill the cells through freezing and thawing (Greco & Bhutta, 2020). Seborrheic keratosis can also be treated through shaving excisions. Local anesthesia is administered before an excision is made on the skin to extract a slice of the tissue containing the growth. The specimen is taken to the laboratory for testing. Seborrheic keratosis can also be removed through electrodesiccation, which involves scarping the epidermal tissue with a curette and using a cautery unit for electrodesiccation.
