Week 2 Case Studies

Case One

You have worked with an anger management group for the past 6 weeks. The group

will be concluding after two more sessions. One of the group members, Priya, is a

woman who has attended five of the six groups so far. You and the co-facilitator realize

that Priya was referred to the group from a social worker who works at the local

Department of Children and Family Services. The social worker has contacted you

about Priya’s attendance in the group and whether or not she has made progress since

joining the group. Should you release Priya’s information?

Case Two

Paula has completed her first counseling session with you. She has informed you that

she was discharged from a residential mental health facility 4 months ago. Paula

stated, “I did a lot of work when I was on the unit. You need to contact Dr. S so you can

learn about the improvements I’ve made. Also they had me on several different

medications. I remember taking Clozapine. In fact this is what I was taking when I was

discharged. Now I am out of my meds and I need some quick, because I don’t want to

go there.” Should you contact Dr. S?

Case Three

You are working with a patient named Ervan. You receive a call from a health

insurance company regarding Ervan. The administrator on the call would like to know

whether Ervan is receiving counseling services, so that information can be sent to your

agency. Should you disclose to the administrator that you are working with Ervan?
