Alzheimer’s disease is a brain ailment that mostly affects the elderly members of the

Alzheimer’s disease begins to affect the brain long before the symptoms are visible. This may be

even a decade or two before the symptoms begin to show. The affected brain tissues begin to

function less effectively. In some patients, the condition may never go beyond the mild stage

while in others it progresses to the moderate and severe stages (Pocnet, Rossier, Antonietti &

Loss of memory is the first symptom of Alzheimer’s disease in the mild stage. However,

experiencing forgetfulness does not necessarily mean that one has Alzheimer’s disease. The

patient looks healthy but starts experiencing confusion. At this stage, it is not easy to distinguish

between the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and normal aging. Alzheimer’s disease patients

begin to show various symptoms. The patients forget the names of things, people and places

where they placed certain objects. They also forget information that they just heard or read.
