Humanists vs. Poststructuralists

Humanism is a belief founded on the way human beings react, relate and perform

activities. It is a value system of how humans make meaning of things. With respect to the

perspective proposed, humanists see objects as something produced by humans and the language

or names associated with objects to be a reinforcement of what the said object is (Grayling,

2011). This perspective is confirmed by the idea of the existentialism. From a humanist

perspective, humans are separate and different from other objects and other people. As such,

even though humans interact with other objects and people, humans are able to differentiate what

and whom they are interacting due to their individual human development. On the contrary,

poststructuralists’ contend that the meaning of things or objects is culturally produced (Harrison,

2006).
