The embodied cognition position grew in popularity starting from the mid-1990s. The position differs from the traditional view of cognitive science. The embodied cognition viewpoint posits that cognitive processes are anchored in the interactions of the body with the world while the traditional view holds that connections to the environment do not influence the mind’s information processing activities. The embodied cognition view challenges the traditional perspective through claims such as cognition is situated, time-pressured, offloaded onto the environment, offline cognition is body-based, cognition is for action, and the environment is a component of the cognitive system. However, most of these claims are not true for every situation, and, therefore, the embodied cognition stance is not plausible.

Theories of embodied cognition posit that people’s thoughts consist of the mental simulations of their bodily experiences. Abstract concepts with negative and positive emotional valence are partly represented through associative mapping in the physical space (Casasanto, 2009). Embodied cognition is a developing research program in cognitive science which stresses the important role that the environment plays in the formation of cognitive processes
