Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods
Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods
Task Details/Description:
- Qualitative Research (50% 2000 words ± 10% )
Choose one from the following options and design a qualitative research study:
Option 1
Design a qualitative study based on your research topic. Describe the purpose of the study and formulate your research question(s). Explain how you will approach the study including the context, method(s) you will employ, sample population, data analysis.
In developing your arguments consider the following:
Provide an explanation of what you have chosen to do and how (in what way) this choice is relevant. Consider the choice of methods between alternatives. How did you generate your data (e.g. interview, observation, photos, secondary documents etc- what kind, who, main themes/questions, how long, where)? You should demonstrate that you are aware of strengths and weaknesses of your methods. In what way were different methods used, how do they support each other and enable you to answer the research question? (did you e.g. use triangulation (comparison of different kinds of data and to see if they support one another?)). How will you analyse the data collected? Ethical issues and challenges you may encounter throughout the process (e.g. access to participants, your position, validity and reliability).Use academic literature to support your arguments.
Option 2
Design a qualitative research study based on the following scenario.
You have taken a new academic position at a local university. You have a heavy teaching load but must also conduct research, so you decide to combine the two by implementing several interactive techniques in the classroom and explore how your students learn. You want to go beyond test scores and instead understand students’ experiences of learning with interactive techniques in class. You are interested in exploring how students make sense of the interactive techniques and the ways students respond to higher order thinking based on the competencies you have developed for the class.
Describe the purpose of the study and formulate your research question(s). Explain how you will approach the study including the context, method(s) you will employ, sample population, data analysis.
