Human Cloning

Human cloning refers to the artificial development of a human being that is genetically

identical to another one. Genetic technology has advanced over the years and has been used to

eliminate some cells to prevent parents from passing on hereditary diseases to their children.

Human clones have also been developed to aid in the treatment of individuals with serious

ailments. However, genetic technology has been considered for purposes other than the

prevention of the inheritance of dangerous diseases. It is possible to utilize this technology to

improve normal human traits in order to enhance the strength, health, intellect and physical

characteristics of children (Rasko, O’Sullivan and Ankeny 199). Designer babies are children

who are developed by selecting the desired characteristics such as hair color, intelligence,

athletic ability, eye color, height, physical attractiveness and other traits. The practice of

selecting the desired traits that children should have has stirred a lot of controversy. Some

individuals vehemently oppose it on ethical grounds while others support it in light of its

perceived benefits. This discussion explores the arguments surrounding the ethics of human

cloning. Human cloning is an unethical practice that leads to increased socioeconomic

stratification, disrupts nature and challenges God and exposes animals to harmful procedures.

Opponents of the creation of designer babies argue that this practice would lead to an

increase in the socioeconomic stratification.
