What is the relationship among the various governments, institutions, organizations, and companies in developing legal codes to combat software piracy?

Unprecedented advancements made by man in the area of information communication

technology have revolutionized not only the way man interacts and communicates, but most

importantly, the way he does business. A surge of numerous new ICT technologies, which

facilitates real time communication, has literary flattened the business world. Business

opportunities within the international markets have been made more accessible by information

and communication technology which defies the limitations of the traditional national boundaries

thereby, making entrance into a new industry easier and cheaper. The critical role that ICT has

assumed in all sectors of an economy is accompanied by a greater onus up on economies to

facilitate integration and improvement of information technology within their boundaries. This

has resulted to rise of a competitive software industry whose goals is to enable organizations,

institutions, and individuals to exploit the potential of ICT as they endeavor to improve the

efficiency of their operations and activities. In essence, without the necessary software programs

that suits the nature of an organizations operation, all forms of computers would not add any

value to that organization. Therefore, designing, and developing tailor made and/or general

application software is a lucrative business that has, and continues to make ICT experts filthy

rich. However, prospects and hard work of software developers are frustrated by software piracy

(Daniels et al 2008, p.112). This is a vice that has proven detrimental to growth and development

of the critical software industry particularly in areas where there no proper legal apparatus.

Shockingly, some of the areas where software piracy is rampant have poorly developed

information technology profile.

Owing to the enormous losses that software developers have consistently incurred, there

is a call for collaboration between governments, institutions, and organizations in development

of legal codes to combat the problem. Currently, software piracy is a mammoth business problem

which cannot be left to software companies alone, which in the past have played their role

commendably.
